Alex conductingAlex Stobbs suffers from Cystic Fibrosis. Channel Four made a documentary - A Boy Called Alex - at the end of which the question was posed to Alex by the director, Stephen Walker from behind the camera after his conducting of a performance of the Bach Magnificat:

"So, what's next, Alex?"

And his determined reply:

"The Matthew Passion. All three hours of it."

The Matthew Passion

On 5th April 2009, Alex fullfilled his wish, and together with The Rodolfus Choir, Southbank Sinfonia and a high-class collection of soloists, performed Bach's three-hour-long work in the Cadogan Hall. The audience responded with a standing ovation. Alex called it "the most enjoyable night of my musical life thus far". (Read a full report here.)

The evening was filmed by the same documentary makers - Walker George Films - that had produced A Boy Called Alex. A follow-up documentary will be broadcast in October 2009. For more details, visit the documentary filmmaker's website.
